Game ticks and redstone ticks
| Unit | Length |
|---|---|
| 1 game tick | 0.05 seconds |
| 1 redstone tick | 2 game ticks, 0.1 seconds |
| 1 repeater setting | 1 to 4 redstone ticks |
| 1 Minecraft day | 24,000 ticks, 20 real minutes |
Times in commands like /effect (seconds) and /schedule (ticks unless you add s or d) mix both, so check which the command wants.
Day and night

| /time set noon | 6000, 12:00 |
| /time set night | 13000, 19:00 |

Time 0 is 06:00, sunrise. Beds work from about 12542 in clear weather.
When the server falls behind
If the server can't finish a tick in 50 milliseconds, it runs slower than 20 ticks a second. Everything that counts ticks slows down with it: crops, furnaces, redstone clocks and the day. Paper's tps command shows the current rate; 20 is full speed.
